I am approaching seven years retired. I have gathered peace, quiet and joy from blogging and the three books of memoir I have written in retirement. I have even joined LinkedIn as an “available” writer.
Despite the needs, particularly for a medical/scientific writer, on LinkedIn, I have declined to respond to postings. I have a deep seated need, now, NOT to answer to a boss. I did my time working for others, off and on, since I was a 12 year old newsboy. I thank God I was able to retire for its joys and for adequate time to deal with my slow (hopefully) deterioration.
Seeing our adult kids, two grandsons and the beautiful and inspiring places we have never been is icing on the cake, a cake that has been de-iced for now.
I guess the best example of how helpful it is to be retired is the nature of one of my routines in the winter of my days. When I get up at 4 a.m. with a full bladder, soon after, I can fully fall asleep. That was not true very often during my time in the labor force. Thank God for huge favors.
