“It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.” Gabriel García Márquez (https://www.writerswrite.co.za/literary-birthday-6-march-gabriel-garcia-marq/)
I had a dream of writing my memoirs. I accomplished that in three books between 2014 and 2020. It brought meaning and purpose to my first steps into retirement. My days were structured by a desire to both exercise and write, six days a week.
But in a sense I still pursue my dreams in these blogs. They give me a voice. They give me a chance to tell my stories. They connect me with every corner of the earth, 24 hours a day. It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to do this, particularly with the nominal expense through WordPress. To fulfill my dreams has been a great respite from the workaday world.
The ability to retire itself is a huge gift. I thank God I have had this retirement to get to know Him, my spouse and other people better. It has been, though at times trying, a wonderful journey. I thank God for my health without which it would be considerably more difficult. May God bless your journey as well as you look to the future with your own precious dreams.
