Some things I just don’t understand.

Pilgrim on a Long, Long Journey

I think some people choose to live on the edge and some don’t. I don’t.

Some people race cars for a living. Some box. Some who have already gained fame and wealth race cars for the thrill of it, one Paul Newman. Some people play pro football for years and have trouble even lifting a fork in old age. Yet when asked many of them say they would do it all again.

There are even those young people who free climb mountains. There aren’t too many old ones.

To me, it’s a mystery. Humans are awfully complicated.

A Cool Drink in a Dry Desert

To find joy in work is to discover the fountain of youth. Pearl S Buck, author of The Good Earth. She won the Pulitzer Prize for it in 1932. She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938.

I find that so refreshing. I have been fortunate enough to be able to retire. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. While I have today, I will enter into that private place where something beyond the day to day occurs.

I write sometimes and it is as though someone else is touching the keys. It seems to be something that comes from a place deep in my soul. In the right moments it seems a gift from God.

The peace I experience is somewhat like my youth, that place without mortgages, exasperating bosses, pandemics or the toughest parts of child rearing.

May God grant you a hands on experience in the arts that feeds your soul, that, is a fountain of youth,
